What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a two thousand year old healing art that originated in China.  It uses a variety of techniques that include Needling, Herbal Medicine, Massage, and Nutrition to bring the body and mind into harmony and balance.

Disease and Pain are understood to be caused by imbalance and disharmony within the body.  Acupuncture corrects these imbalances, by restoring the body's ability to function properly and heal itself.  It can be used to treat symptoms of illness or injury, but also focuses on finding the root causes of disease.

"There's nothing magical about acupuncture.  Many of these techniques all work by activating the body's own self-healing mechanism."   -Ka-Kit Hui, MD

"The main goal of acupuncture is self-healing.  Our bodies can do it.  We are not animals who are dependent on drugs."  -Paul Magarelli, MD

Community Acupuncture

We’ll be treating people in a group setting every other Wednesday 10am-2pm and every other Friday 4pm-8pm. These treatments are sliding scale $15-$40!

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.  Pants should be able to roll up above the knees, as well as a tank top or shirt that is easy to get above your elbows.  You will most likely be taking off your shoes and socks, so shoes that are easy to slip off will help as well.

Appointments are required.  If it’s your first visit, please allow extra time for new patient paperwork (about 20 minutes). Call (845)887-9004 or book HERE  to reserve a spot!

Community acupuncture (also known as Group acupuncture) is a nationwide movement to create access to acupuncture by removing the barrier of cost from healing. River Family Wellness will offer treatment in a group setting and charge on a sliding scale format ($15-$40).  You can become part of this movement to reform healthcare by joining us! You will be surrounded by other people quietly receiving treatment at the same time. Patients benefit in many ways from the community setting. In our busy society, it is not often we stop and take time to relax while surrounded by our peers. This is not a lack of privacy but an opportunity to experience treatment with family, friends and community. As with any intentional group endeavor, the shared state makes individual treatments more powerful. Here, the patients create the healing atmosphere as much as the practitioner.

Bring your friends and family, and enjoy a treatment together!
